Producer Organisations in Senegal will send mangoes to Albert Heijn

Two Producer Organisations in the Casamance, Kafountine (480 members) and Thionck-Essyl (420 members) sent their first test containers of fresh mangoes to Albert Heijn in July 2008. Based on these positive results both organisations continued their supply in 2009!

FairMatch Support has linked the farmers to Albert Heijn and has provided the necessary assistance to meet all the requirements. The mangoes from the Casamance have just received the organic certification! In addition, a lot of attention is being paid to build strong producer organizations. If these test containers are successful, the intention is to start long-term trading relationships with these smallholders.

 

Savanna Farmers in Ghana: a unique company giving thousands of farmers access to new markets

FairMatch Support has been involved in setting up Savanna Farmers Marketing Company (SFMC) in Northern Ghana. SFMC is a new marketing company that buys products from about 4,000 small-scale farmers and sells these products to different companies. For example, they sell sorghum to the Guinness Breweries.

The shares of the company are currently in trust with ACDEP, a local NGO. In the coming years these shares will be transferred to the farmers.

Together with FairMatch Support and Global Trading they started with the development of a Fairtrade Cashew supply chain in 2008. Two producer groups of approximately 1000 farmers in total are involved in the chain and will become fairtrade certified by next season. Soon you will find more information about these groups.

 

Arrival Fairtrade Cashews from Vietnam!

In august 2008 the first Fairtrade Cashew for Global Trading arrived. Although a small volume, it is quite an achievement for the the Duc Phu producers. As being a pilot project, and the first fairtrade certified cashew farmers within this the Cashew programma, they can be proud of their first export and sustainable product. The fairtrade cashew has been exported with the support of our partner, and fairtrade operator, MDI.

Duc Phu Agricultural Cooperative: the first Fairtrade Cashew producers in Vietnam

Duc Phu is a small cooperative of about 100 members in the South of Vietnam. The members of the cooperative are involved in products as cashew, rice and pepper. The producer group has been Fairtrade certified since 2007. FairMatch Support is working together with Duc Phu cooperative in setting up a Fairtrade cashew supply chain with Global Trading.
