FairMatch Support works for all of the actors in a chain. Our activities per actorare singular and diverse, but never stand alone, and together result in an optimal chain. Following is a number of project examples.
Example 1: AfricaCashewInitiative
- PROJECT : International cashew trade – part of the African Cashew initiative (ACi) chain project, in which FMS collaborates with all of the links in the chain.
- FINANCIERS: 50% Public (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, HIVOS, ICCO, GIZ) 50% Private (also including Kraft, OLAM, Intersnack, TDG, etc.)
- RESULTS: In order to obtain high-quality fair trade products in the supermarket, all of the delivering links must perform optimally. FMS has realised a chain collaboration between all of the actors from ‘field to fork’; from producer through processor/importer through roaster to European retail. As a result, the importer/roaster now benefits from traceable and certified supply and the primary sector benefits from continuous sales. The importer/roaster has adjusted the processes in order to be able to deliver the perfect products while anticipating an extremely challenging lead time. FMS coaches the procedure for mutual usefulness and improvement of market position of all links. FMS continuously contributes to increasing the volume on the supply side.
- STATUS: FMS has been involved in the collaboration since the start in 2007.
Example 2: ‘Pacific Growers Export Partnership’
- PROJECT: In the ‘Pacific Growers Export Partnership’ (PGEP), FMS collaborates with local entrepreneurs in Papua New Guinea, Bougainville, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Australia in order to obtain a competitive position on the global market for cacao and other commodities.
- FINANCIERS: 100% Publicly financed by ICCO
- RESULTS: FMS is co-initiator in the realisation of a collaboration that immediately resulted in the origination of new trading relations. In the first year of the project, over 1000 Mt of cacao was traded. By realising a digital trading and information platform, all of the links in the chain receive the information required to improve their efficiency. Collaboration with Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand results in that Fairtrade certified commodities from Oceania come onto the world market.
- STATUS: In 2008, FMS held a forum with various stakeholders from the chain from which this project originated with a term up to and including 2011.
