FairMatch Support is a not for profit organisation, based in the Netherlands and founded in the beginning of 2007.
The growing demand from consumers for sustainably produced products, like organic and Fairtrade, is creating new market opportunities for both small-scale producers from developing countries as well as for Western companies. Since the last decade Western companies are increasingly working on Corporate Social Responsibility and revising their buying policies to include more products that are produced in a socially and environmentally friendly way.
Despite this positive trend, the founders of FairMatch Support noticed that small-scale producers were not able to capture this emerging international market. Farmers have difficulties meeting quality requirements and to create sufficient volumes. Likewise, retailers or trading companies have little experience in developing supply chains with small farmers and in converting current supply chains into those that are more sustainable.
Hence early 2007, FairMatch Support was set up to bridge the gap between product demand and supply. We are a Dutch linking and co-ordination ‘hub’ for the various actors in value chain development. We are not related to a specific company, sector or certification scheme and are therefore in a unique position as independent Matchmaker and Support provider.
